| Sample Details | The gizzard is a muscular stomach responsible for mechanical digestion and is commonly affected in feed-related, toxic, and infectious conditions, particularly in poultry. Lesions in the gizzard often reflect dietary factors, mycotoxin exposure, and certain viral or bacterial infections. Submission of gizzard samples is recommended in cases of: erosions, ulceration, or hemorrhages of the gizzard lining, poor growth, reduced feed intake, or feed conversion issues, suspected feed toxicity or mycotoxin involvement, post-mortem investigation of unexplained mortality, laboratory evaluation of gizzard tissue helps in identifying underlying pathological causes, linking lesions with nutritional or infectious factors, and guiding corrective measures in feed management and disease control. |
